Where it comes from
The lists connect it with ripening and abundance — to be fruitful, laden — though the picture behind the wedges is graded unclear. Its Akkadian job is steady beyond argument: lum, the syllable that closes awīlum in the nominative — which means it closes the subject of nearly every law on the stele.
How to remember it
Ripen — a man in full legal standing is, in the laws’ eyes, a case fully ripe: rights, duties, liabilities all grown in. The word for him ripens to its end on this sign.
