Where it comes from

102’s birth-sign — Sumerian tu(d), “to be born.” Akkadian enlisted it for a sound Sumerian never separated out: the emphaticpronounced with extra tension further back in the throat than its plain twin — q versus k, ḥ versus h ṭ, the pressed t of the Semitic consonant row. As ṭu₂ it stands at the head of ṭubbim, “to make well” — the last word of the stele’s statement of purpose.

How to remember it

Born again with a harder edge: the gentle t of birth pressed into ṭ. What is well-being — ṭūbum — if not being born into the world and kept whole in it? The birth-sign carries the king’s promise to keep it so.
