Where it comes from

A corner, a nook — a recess of the world’s edge in the lists (stated; the related word tubqum means just that). Note the school already has a “corner”: the Sumerian shelf’s IB. Two different signs, two neighboring senses — this one is the nook, and its Akkadian life is the syllable ub, riding second position in verbs like u-ub-bi-ir-ma.

How to remember it

A nook is where things tuck in tight: the sign tucks in right behind the grass-sign in verb after verb, a snug -ub- pocket in the middle of the action.
