Where it comes from
A compound in the lists (U joined with GUD); whatever picture once lived there has left no confident story. Its Akkadian job is sharp-edged: ul, the negation of plain statements — where lā bends inside conditions and wishes, ul slams a fact shut.
How to remember it
Never. Not “not-if,” not “may-it-not” — just no. The king uses it exactly once in the lines this course reads, to say his deeds have no rival, and the sentence sounds like a door closing.
