Where it comes from
The lap and the loins — a body’s base — and from there the base of anything: a mountain’s foot, a temple’s foundations (stated). Akkadian borrows the sound for plain syllable duty.
How to remember it
The lap is where things rest and where they start. In this course it carries one unforgettable rest: the last syllable of līmur, “let him see his case” — the course’s whole purpose, coming to rest on its last sign.
