Where it comes from

A quail chick — round-bodied, short-beaked, feet planted. It writes w (the “u” sound), which makes it one of the busiest birds in the script: plurals, endings, and names all peep with it. Its cursive twin is the coil Z7 — same sound, quicker pen.

How to remember it

The chick says w — the small round “oo” of a small round bird. Wherever a word needs that vowel-ish glide, the chick trots in on its two drawn legs.
