Where it comes from
One 一 set over white 白 — the classic account: bái lends the sound, the stroke tallies the count, and bǎi comes out the far side. The course’s first built numeral, and in the classics also simply “the many”: the hundred names, the hundred crafts. Taught in the all-of-it chapter.
