Where it comes from

The lists build it from the eye-sign and read it as praise, glory (stated) — being SEEN well, which is what glory is. In Akkadian text it works as the plain syllable ar, busiest inside maḫar, “before, facing.”

How to remember it

Praise is standing before approving eyes — and the sign’s big word, maḫar, is exactly that: standing before. An eye in the sign, an audience in the meaning.
