Where it comes from
A reed bundle, looped at the top — the gate-post standard of the goddess, planted at her shrines since before writing could spell a name (classic). It IS her signature: Sumerian Inanna, and in Akkadian mouths Ištar — one sign, two names, one Lady of the morning star.
How to remember it
The goddess at the gate: her looped standard stood at the storehouse door, and the sign still stands wherever she is named — in hymns, in temples, and in the year-name of a Sippar loan.
