Where it comes from
Prince, noble — one of the script’s honest old rank-signs, the identification classic since the earliest lists. Akkadian keeps both the dignity and the sound: as a syllable it is nun, and its most famous posting is inside the name of the great gods collectively — the A-nun-na-ki, “the princely offspring.”
How to remember it
A prince among syllables: it turns up where rank is being handed out. The gods who assign kingship on the stele’s second line carry the prince-sign in their own family name.
