Where it comes from
A brazier or fire — the household flame in its stand. As a syllable ne it works far from the hearth: in pronouns (a-ne, “he/she”; diŋir-re-ne, “the gods”), in names, and as ne-en, “this.” The fire-sign, hired out as a sound.
How to remember it
A brazier crackles with nine wedges of kindling — the busiest-looking sign of its chapter. Fire spreads; so does this syllable, into any word that needs its heat.
