Where it comes from
A forearm, palm up — elbow to open hand in one clean line. It writes ꜥ, the deep pharyngeal sound conventionally read as “a”; as a word, ꜥ is also “arm, hand” itself, so the picture never stopped meaning what it shows.
How to remember it
The forearm reaches out flat — the sound ꜥ comes from just as deep as an arm is long. It waits inside the sun-god’s own name: Rꜥw, mouth-arm-sun.
