Where it comes from
A hand, flat and open, thumb up — cut off at the wrist, unlike the whole forearm. It writes d: the firm tap of a sound, matched to the part of the body that does the tapping.
How to remember it
The hand does — and d is the doing sound: ḏd “say” carries it, and every craftsman’s caption keeps it busy. Where the arm reaches, the bare hand works.
