Where it comes from
What 也 once pictured is honestly disputed — the scholars disagree, and this course says so. Its classical life is unambiguous: the final particle that closes a statement, the struck bell at the end of “X is Y 也.” Taught in the busiest-words chapter.

The full stop that speaks: indeed, it is so. When you hear the bell, the sentence is over.
