With Phase 19 merged, Nabu cuts its first versioned release: v1.0.0. The number marks a simple fact — the library is whole. Every registered source is synced and live, every shipped capability runs against real data, and the one honest gap left in the catalog is the shelf that is supposed to start empty: the owner’s own.
The library, at 1.0. As of 2026-07-14 the catalog holds 170,711 documents / 4,267,659 passages from 28 synced sources — the Greek and Latin canons, the documentary papyri, the Heidelberg inscriptions, 33 ORACC cuneiform projects, the Sanskrit shelf, Coptic Scriptorium, the complete Old English poetic records, and the Slavic witnesses among them — plus 458,238 dictionary entries across sixteen dictionaries and 2,852,069 gold lemma annotations in fifteen languages. The three etymological adapters registered at Phase 18 were synchronized on 2026-07-14 and are live: the IE-CoR cognacy database (4,981 expert-curated cognate sets), the LIV verbal roots (305 etymons), and de Vaan’s Etymological Dictionary of Latin (2,860 etymons) — three independent witnesses beside the Wiktionary-derived chains, bringing the reconstruction-to-attestation crosswalk to 1,036,224 edges.
Canonical memory. Phase 19’s theme was giving the library a doctrine
for knowledge that is authored or acquired rather than downloaded. The
per-language curation behind nabu language now lives as 199 plain
Markdown dossiers on a local shelf — edit one in any editor and the
reference card follows. And a new nabu ingest command opens the
local-library shelf: point it at a PDF, a scan, or an offprint and it is
copied in, catalogued interactively (or AI-assisted, or scripted),
page-cited where a text layer exists, and held under the strictest access
class by default — searchable beside Homer, never served or
redistributed. That shelf awaits its first document, as it should.
A public face. The phase also finished the project’s outward furniture: contribution house rules and prepared issue forms, a twenty-question FAQ, this News section with its Atom feed, citation metadata (CITATION.cff) in the repository, and a maintainer address (arvicco@nabu.ac). How to cite the release is on the FAQ; a DOI per release, via Zenodo, is planned.
Honesty notes. All figures are read from the live catalog and dated 2026-07-14. Live use during the phase surfaced three real defects — a phantom trailing page in PDF extraction, a file-creation date mistaken for a publication year, and a stale upstream-drift verdict shown after a successful re-sync — all fixed with regression tests. The suite stands at 2,616 tests / 32,881 assertions, green, with zero skips. Command-line flags may still change between releases; the library’s numbers will not stand still, and the next entry will carry the new ones.
