Where it comes from
The door — the lists state it plainly, and the sign’s career agrees: doors and door-leaves travel through it in the account texts. Akkadian takes the sound in all three colors, ig, ik, iq.
How to remember it
A door decides: in or out. In law 2 the door-sign opens the verdict itself — iktašassu, “the River has overwhelmed him” — the moment the case swings shut.
