Where it comes from
The distant-sign of 102 — ri, what is far off. Akkadian, which cares about the difference between i and e, lets the same sign say both: re is the e-colored twin, met first in a proud name — Sîn-ašarēd, “Sîn is foremost.”
How to remember it
What is distant is out ahead: the one who has gone farthest in front is ašarēd, “foremost” — and the far-sign, e-colored, sits inside the word for it.
