Where it comes from
Za is bead, precious stone — the lapis-and-carnelian ledger word. Three wedges only. Its star turn is grammatical: za-e, “you” — the pronoun that lets a hymn look its addressee in the eye.
How to remember it
A bead is small, hard, and precious — three wedges you could string on a cord. And the person a hymn calls you is precious the same way: za-e, the bead-word aimed at someone who matters.
