Where it comes from
The earliest graphs show a person shouldering a load — the ancestor of the word for “carry” — and the standard analysis reads the settled form as a person with 可 lending the sound. Borrowed for the question word, it never went back: 何 is the what, how and why of every classical argument. Taught in the asking chapter.
